What are you expecting for Valentines Day?

I've had the opportunity to learn of many Valentine's experiences that have been exciting and romantic. There were even some wedding proposals.

The most common stories, however involve disappointment. Appreciation yes, but disappointment nevertheless.

What is that about, ladies? Could it be that we are expecting HIM (our significant other) to BE, DO, PROVIDE and SUPPLY everything that is needed to make V-Day romantic, memorable and gossip-worthy?  What is the truth about it?

Many of us feel that HIS JOB is to:

  • BE Romantic

  • DO something spontaneous and unexpected (Surprise Me!)

  • PROVIDE the right atmosphere and attitude

  • SUPPLY WHATEVER! - Think it through, execute and like it! (smile)

"I just want to show up and be totally dazzled!" Right, Ladies? Maybe...How can you have the perfect Valentine's Day - with or without a significant other?

YOU are YOUR Knight in Shining Armor

I believe it is time to take matters into our own hands. Waiting for someone to plan for and provide what we need, when we need it and how we need it will almost always lead to disappointment.

I say ALMOST always because there is one instance where you have complete control over how you get exactly what you require. When you do it for yourself.

I'm not advocating the SUPERWOMAN syndrome at all. What I'm suggesting is that you:

  1. Take the initiative to learn much more about you. We can all become much more intimate, loving and giving to ourselves. It starts with learning about ourselves with understanding and compassion.  If you think 'where I am is all there is', then I challenge you to find out if you're right.

  2. Identify what you desire and what you require [Spirit, Soul/Mind and Body]. Make a list.

    • Require: Something that your Spirit/Soul/Body MUST HAVE in order to continue in supporting you from a health/sanity perspective.

    • Desire: Something that your Spirit/Soul/Body craves that supports you in stepping fully into your strength, power, confidence and purpose.

  3. Once you know what you Require/Desire, decide to GIVE those things to yourself-ceaselessly!

  • When do you need it?

  • How do you need it?

  • Add it to your calendar/planner.

  • Keep your appointments with yourself SACRED!

ABOUT VALENTINES MONTH

I know that this month is special, It's Valentine's MONTH. So treat it that way. Take every opportunity to splurge on giving to yourself...Giving of your time, your love, your tender touch and your understanding. Go out of your way for you THIS MONTH!

DO: Do the exercise above with Valentines Day/Month in mind as you decide what you Require/Desire.  What is your Perfect Idea for a Valentines Day? What would make it most memorable?

Write it out (in your Journal) as though you are informing a significant other of your PERFECT V-Day.  When you've completed the writing, read it back to yourself.  (REMEMBER-THIS IS FOR/ABOUT YOU-NOT YOUR SIGNIFICANT OTHER) Plan to give yourself exactly what you want...it may take time, effort, maybe even a little money...you deserve every bit of it.

Suggestion: Consider your birthday and other special days as well.
