UPDATE: FAMILY TRAGEDY
Thursday, Feb 25, 2010
I finally spoke with my Aunt Mildred yesterday and she's doing as well as she can be...considering. She's in the hospital with burns on her hands, arms, ear and her back. Her left hand will require surgery which is scheduled for Monday. Please continue to pray for her complete healing and restoration.
The coroner is still trying to positively identify Uncle Dubb. The service is tentatively scheduled for next Friday.
Thanks to those of you who have asked about ways to help/donate. The family is considering the best ways that people can offer their support. They are planning to reach out to the Red Cross for help, but they're not sure about how or what the Red Cross will be able to do. Having said that, if you'd like to help, you can write a check made payable to Mrs. Mildred Gunn. I will be taking any donations with me to the service next Friday and will personally deliver them to my aunt. Our entire family appreciates your kindness and generosity in this desperate time of need.
I stumbled upon the news footage of the story for those of you who are interested in seeing it.

I'll update this note when there is more news. I can't thank you enough for your prayers, condolences and offers to donate. My family and I are grateful for it all. God Bless.

My family has suffered a tragic loss and I thought it necessary to call on those of you who are closest to me to ask for your agreement in prayer.
What Happened?
My Aunt & Uncle have been married for 64 years and are the backbone of our family. He's 85 and she's 82 and they have been together since high school. They live on our family property in a small town in Alabama, the place that we all call 'home'. They have 5 children, countless grands and even great grand children most of whom are in her home literally every day.
She is the sweetest and most giving and loving woman you could ever know. And he is the most gentle and kindhearted man. Together they make marriage look so easy. I pray that my hubby and I have so many years of happy marriage.
Well, yesterday morning (Monday Feb 22, 2010), my aunt woke up decided to make herself something to eat. She accidentally started a grease fire and tried desperately to put it out. The fire got out of control and she ran out of the house.
Sadly, the house burned down - completely to the ground. My uncle was still asleep and he died in the fire. Our entire family is devastated.
Right now, my aunt is still in the hospital recovering from 3rd degree burns on both arms and hands. She doesn't know yet that my uncle, her husband of 64 years, has died.
My heart is broken, and we are all very concerned about my Aunt. Aside from the physical pain of healing from such serious burns, the emotional pain that she is about to endure is unthinkable. I can't even begin to imagine how she will take the news that her husband is gone and her home; all of her belongings, memories and personal effects have been completely destroyed.
Please Agree with Me in Prayer
Heavenly Father, Your Word says that where two or more come together in agreement, as touching, that anything that we ask, it shall be done. So Lord God, we thank You for giving Aunt Mildred and Uncle Dubb 64 years of love and companionship. They built a large, strong and loving family and are genuinely loved by all. And we thank You that Uncle Dubb lived a long life and that he loved You, Lord. We know that Your Word says that to be absent from the body is to be present with You, Lord. So, while we will miss him terribly, we know that he is at peace, with You.
Lord God, we pray that Aunt Mildred has a speedy recovery and that she is able to regain the use of her hands and arms. But most importantly Lord, we ask you to heal her heart. Your Word tells us to speak those things that ‘be not’ as though they were. So right now, we take authority over the spirit of guilt and condemnation and we command that Aunt Mildred is free from both of them. We thank you Lord that she will not blame herself and that she has a will to keep on living.
We call forth courage, strength, peace and the grace of God and we ask that they hover over the entire family during this sad time. We thank You, Lord, that Your Word says that You are perfecting those things that concern us and that You shall supply all our needs according to Your riches and glory. Give her children and grands the strength and wisdom to be what she needs and provide her with the love and support that will help her move through the next few days, weeks and months. Thank you Lord, God for the gift of family and thank You for helping them all/us all heal from this tragedy.
In the mighty and matchless name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, Amen.
Thank you for standing in agreement with Me. Please add us to any prayer chains that you may be a part of. Thank you and God Bless.

I am in agreement with you in the prayer that you wrote. I have been praying for you and your family since you shared this with me. When tragedy hits us it can be so devastating and we feel so helpless because we are a people that want to fix everything. But there are things that only God can do and that is heal a broken heart, cover you with peace and understanding and get you beyond the place of hurt so you can go on living for Him. As a christian we are to turn to God for everything even though it is not easy when we are going through the fire. But I have learned that it is easier for me to turn it over to God then carry it myself. As my sister Sharon said when she lost her daughter (I have to let God heal me becuase I can't stand the hurt.) I pray that your family will allow God to heal their broken hearts too.
Loving Me,
Carol Richardson
Your Sister in Crist
